ABOUT US AND OUR SERVICES:

 

We are a company of individuals dedicated to serving the youth, high school, collegiate, open and masters athletes with experience in planning, implementation, and presentation of Track & Field meets, cross country races, and coaching seminars. Among the many services we offer are:

 

- Coordination of USATF certified officials

- Services for a Laser Measuring Device (Lasam) for Track & Field long throwing events (hammer, discus, & javelin)

- Track & Field meet management (Host, Direct and Manage Track & Field meets)

- Cross Country and Road Race finish line coordination and results processing

- Sponsorship and Advertisement coordination

- Custom Design Awards coordination

- Assistance with USATF Sanctioning of your event

- Coordinating and offering Coaching Seminars & Clinics

- Assistance with local, regional and national coaching speaking engagements for your clinic or track & field function

- USATF Coaching Education School Level 1 Course (Hosted USATF Level I School in 2010)

- Youth Track Club (Heartland Youth TC a USATF club #4040) offers indoor & summer sessions for ages 5 to 18

- Open/Masters Track Club (Heatland Master TC a USATF club # 3025)

- Host the annual Heartland High School Indoor meet at Johnson County Community College (3rd annual in 2011)

- Host the annual Heartland Open/Masters Indoor meet at Johnson County Community College (3rd annual in 2011)

- Host the annual Heratland All-Comers Outdoor meet at Johnson County Community College (3rd annual in 2011)

- Host the annual Heartland Open/Master Outdoor meet at Johnson County Community College (3rd annual in 2011)

- Host the annual Thursday Night Track Series in July at various venues in Kansas City metro (2nd annual in 2011)

- Host the annual Heartland Throws Challenge meet at Johnson County Community College (2nd annual in 2011)

 

Gilbert S. Castillo

Gilbert S. Castillo - Director of Athletics.

 

Gilbert is a degreed engineer and educator and a graduate of The Univerity of Texas. He is currently working in the private sector in sales management. He has 10 years of experience in coordinating athletic events, 14 years of high school, college & club coaching experience and over 25 years of experience in Track & Field. He continues to compete in the 400m & 800m at the Masters level winning first place in his age group including recently competing at the 2008 National Senior Games and winning a silver medal at the 2008 USATF National Indoor Masters Championships in the 4x800m relay for the Heartland Masters TC.

Gilbert is the founder and co-owner of Heartland Athletic Services, Inc.

Certified Track & Field Official (USATF, NFHS & MSHSAA)

Gilbert is a USATF "NATIONAL" certified official and has officiated at events including the 2008 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships, 2008-10 MIAA conference Championship, 2008-10 Kansas State HS Cross Country Championships, 2006-2010 KU Relays and the 2008-2010 NJCAA outdoor Track & Field Championships. Gilbert has been a USATF certified offical for the past 12 years. For additional list of officiating local, regional and national championship T&F meets:

 

 

Gilbert is a National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) certified official. He has been certified as a NFHS official for the last 15 years. He has officiated in Track & Field and Cross Country meets in Texas, California, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Louisana, Kansas and Missouri. His specialities are meet director, head official for the pole vault, discus, shot put, long/triple jump, high jump and referee. He also has over 10 years of organizing high school meets.

 

 

Gilbert is a MSHSAA certified Cross Country and Track & Field official for the Missouri State High School Athletic Association. He as officated district, sectional and state track & field meets for past 7 years. His specialities are meet director, head official for the pole vault, discus, shot put, long/triple jump, high jump and referee. He also has over 10 years of organizing and coordinating indoor and outdoor high school meets.

 

Coaching Education (USA Track & Field and US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association)

Gilbert is also a USATF Level 1 Coach having completed the 2009 USA Track & Field Coaching Education School Level 1 at the University of Colorado – Boulder studying under Dr. Ralph Vernacchia, Rob Graham, Dr. Jack Ransone, Boo Schexnayder, Tommy Badon, Al Schmidt and Dr. Larry Judge. Level 1 schools are two-and-a-half-day courses where 21.5 hours that cover the following topics: Philosophy, Psychology, Physiology, Biomechanics, Training Theory, Biomotor Training, Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, Jumping Events, Throwing Events, Endrance Events and Racewalking events.

Cerification: USATF Level I Certification Certificate

 

Gilbert has been a member of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the past 5 years. The USTFCCCA is the non-profit professional organization that represents men's and women's cross country and track & field coaches in the United States. USTFCCCA serves as an advocate for cross country and track & field coaches, providing a leadership structure to assist the needs of a diverse membership, serving as a lobbyist for coaches' interests, and working as a liaison between the various stakeholders in the sports of cross country and track & field.USTFCCCA

 

Dr. John (Jack) W. Nelson

Jack Nelson - Director of Operations.

 

Jack is a dentist by profession, but has a keen love and interest in track & field, cross country and LDR events. He competes at the Masters level and has medaled in his age group at many events in the metro area. He also has competed at the National Senior Games. In addition to managing his own dental practice, Jack has served as President of the UMKC Alumni Association Governing Board, President of the Greater Kansas City Dental Society, and has served on several other community and professional boards.

Jack is the founder and co-owner of Heartland Athletice Servicse, Inc.
